I disagree. Cooperation isn't only through government or state controlled entities. Countries that have more economic freedom and less socialism (thus in a sense more capitalism) tend to be more generous to charity, and probably in terms of cooperation in general.

With an imbalance you end up with too much corporate greed and selfishness

Corporate greed and selfishness tends to manifest itself in its most harmful way through corporations recruting government to its own end, not through capitalism. One thing that confuses some people is that capitalists often, at least in terms of their actions if not their words, are not big supporters of capitalism, they would rather the government fork it over for them; but government handouts and bailouts, government restrictions on competition, government incentives to do all sorts of things..., none of those are the free market (unless perhaps you count the free market in buying politicians <g>).
