Good articles. Thanks Rob. Yesterday, Zenbu tried out a swanky new Ubiquiti "Nanostation" ubnt.com

We plugged a long ethernet cable into a Zenbu router and sent the signal up onto the roof then drove around testing how far the signal reached. We got easily about 500 metres through various buildings and trees.

It was not a rigorous test, but it certainly showed that a LOT more Wi-Fi area can be covered than with the standard omnidirectional Linksys WRT54GL antennas. Having a highly sensitive telescope detecting candles at the other end of the cosmos through a fog of cosmic debris, trees and houses is the name of the game. This did the trick.

Now, accommodation providers [and anyone] can get a Zenbu router and one of these [or two] and cover their whole premises and a lot more besides, at low cost.

LTE, WiMAX and Wi-Fi are lining up for an interesting development process.
