The problem with the tea parties is their timing.

Maybe if Fox had asserted some leadership in the last 8 years when the financial debacle was building, they might have had some relevance.

As it is now, they are futile, fist waving gestures, apparently aimed at the current administration, that has been in economic emergency backstop mode since its inception.

There isn't a damn thing that the current administration can do except try and salvage the economy, destroyed by the previous administration.

The fact that includes a come to Jesus moment that, yup, somebody actually has to pay for the Bush spending spree, is very stressful.

Unfortunately likening Obama to Hitler probably won't work for much other than forcing his Secret Service detail to get even more ulcers.

The tea parties were planned and promoted by the Talk Radio Party formerly known as Republican. The party has been hijacked by these people that prey on the ignorant and use fear to incite. We have a huge ignorant population that are very happy to watch their reality tv shows, listen to bile spewing talk show hosts. Anything, so they actually do not have to think. Kids wearing teabag hats, it was more like a MTV spring break than a real protest.

The US has some of the lowest nominal tax rates in the world. The taxes on ordinary citizens are actually decreasing but that doesn't stop the lies. MP

What ticks me off is that the tea parties are somehow getting labeled as right wing. The issue is not about right wing versus left wing. It is the private sector protesting the size of the public sector.

Bingo! There was a link I saw somewhere on SI last week to a series of tea parties that were sponsored by Code Pink (antithetical to anyone on the right). It was a broad spectrum that was protesting.

I don't care which side you fall on the government is just too big and must shrink. Both right and left wing spending must shrink.

One of the biggest problems that I have with "conservatives" is that most of the time they are single mindedly focused on cutting taxes. If the same focus was placed on the spending side so that spending was actually cut, the tax issue would become moot.
