Because most married women work now. They didn't then. And if they did work, the typical pay women got was much, much lower than what a man got. How well do you think the average family would fare if only the husband worked?

Correct. Because of debt.

I was there, nit wit. I didn't experience those personally, because they didn't happen in Texas. Nationally, they were a phenom for maybe a MONTH of the entire decade. The rest of the time, you could fill up for less than $.50 a gallon.
