Crocodile, Fear is a natural instinct, the highest form of respect. Lose a few friends to your bears and see how you feel the next time you glide by them. Just because you havn't been attacked, doesn't mean that you will not be attacked. Bears are Bears.

I'm not advising you to run and hide in the house. But a good fear of the natural environment can save your life; or at least make you more aware of the risks you are taking. Its a beautiful world, a great place to enjoy; and an untouched realm is for many the best place to get enjoyment. I love it. But when I choose to move in it, I do so with the knowledge that it may reach out and do me a big bad number.

But I speak more from a knowledge of the Ocean than the Forests. My nephews played in the water of Olowalu for years; a beautiful place with kid sized waves and all kinds of fish. ALL KINDS OF FISH. Two years ago a lady, rest her soul, was swimming in the same waters and bang. Something bigger than 18 feet took so much of her they had to use plastic bags for what was left. I had a friend who just dissapeared. We know it was a shark, because his girl friend watched it take his head off; but look as they might nothing, not a fin, not a mask, nothing was ever found. And he knew exactly what he was doing.

I'll keep fear as a good buddy. Not to do so is to let stupidity ride the next wave with me; and I'll likely end up on the rocks of Panics...letting the tourists try and sort me out.

regards,

mnmuench

Lady Croc:

One last word on fear. Without it we would not survive very long in this world. It should be embraced, it is our protector, given to us for a purpose. It is a necessary lifeforce, but one that doesn't have to dominate our lives or actions. A tool of self-preservation...

If we take the necessary precautions to protect ourselves from those things seen or unforseen that will injured us, then that is all we can do. The very reason, I wear bells in the bush. Not because I am captivated by the tinkling sound they make(although its very pleasant), or because it soothes the savage beasts, but because it announces my arrival in their domain, which is the polite and neighborly thing to do...

Who was it that said, "There's nothing to fear but fear itself" A force that can prevent you from living or keep you living...

Tomato, fear is a miracle....
