That push has become very weak, now that the press actually sees themselves as an advocate for a particular partisan lean. Some people see that as a risk to the system in general, especially when that partisan view holds the reigns of power. The press is now saying, don't criticise this, don't challenge that, let's humiliate the skeptics. Entertaining for a time maybe, but if it goes on for very long we lose that accountability pressure that has been so valuable to us as a culture.

Where were you when the press was supporting a president and advocating his war when they should have been asking the tough questions?
