Interesting history.

I have visited the old synagogue in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Quite pretty, with a white sand floor, symbolizing the wanderings in the desert... which probably struck a cord with the congregants.

Sadly, I understand, at least some members of the congregation were, among other trades, involved in the slave trade... a blot on their history.
