Sunny, add post office "contributions" (which are about $100 million in clinton's case) and we'd be well on our way to solving much of the problem.

as you say, though, it won't happen - the corporations and those who run the corporations won't let it happen.

this is a hallmark of fascism - the corporation won't let reform substantially reduce their influence on government.

that's why mickey mouse will *never* enter the public domain - a corporation keeps paying off government to change copyright to benefit the corporation at the expense of the american people.

I agree. And the forefathers had *no idea* such a system would evolve. I watched the John Adams series recently... very good ... and it was a marvel to see how "simple" life was in his time, being President and walking around the street on his own, hardly recognized.

The people of course can enact such a measure, via the Constitutional Amendment process. I remember when I was a young teen and the Equal Rights Amendment was making the rounds, eventually to fall short. I think the political process has become so divisive that such an effort will not get launched in our lifetime... for anything except some wag-the-dog, meaningless distraction of course.
