That religion has been a beneficial influence in the west for a very long time isn't even controversial.

Example:

Was it secularist scientists who rid us of slavery? Read Breaking the Chains and you'll find otherwise.

There weren't that many secular scientists at the time, but one of them, Darwin, created a scientific basis for racism.
