You really think they are interested in the good of the industry? That proves to me you have no clue of
what's going on. This is one of the brilliant (the only one) marketing moves Sun has made - making people
think Java is some sort of gift to the world, and not just a way to sell more Sun products

At least they don't have code that says

if (software = "Netsape" || "Non-MS") {
coredump()
}

//////////////////////////////////////////////
// Learn Java, help destroy the Evil Empire
////////////////////////////////////////////////

If you have specific MS gripes and can provide a better
alternative let me know.

I was on HP Unix for 8 years. I could go for months without
having to reboot. I once had an uptime of 220 days, and then
it was because of an UPS outage.

I'm now on an Dell 200 pro running NT, and I have to reboot
every other day. It is slower than my 150p running W95.

So you must write great quality software. I bet you don't have
a computer science degree.

Well, DUHHHHH. Kind of like Intel liking and encouraging the
bloatware everyone has to run.

I applaud your position. This is one of very few reasonable takes on the issues. The fact that someone owns Nestcape shares does not make Netscape a great company or its competitors bad companies. In addition, people should have at least minimal intelligence to be able to go over their jealousy.

Java is a gift for it promises OS independence. IMO, it is a gift to the world, and I have no problem if it is a way for SUN to sell more products. What's wrong with that when their product is better than competetion if not the best?
At least they deliver what they advertise, now. Not a year or 2 from now.
Regardless of microsock product quality, I do not accept the principles it bases its business on. This crush and destroy competition mentality is not good for consumers. If it's up to Bully Billy, he'd love to be the only supplier of software; OS on down. If no one stops such practices, sooner than you think we'll be getting all our needs from microsuck. i'll let you reflect on how good that would be.

"We're doing what's best for the consumer" gives such great laughs.
