That´s correct; in european media the acquisition by oracle is viewed sceptically - particular with respect to the widely used opensource stuff. Orcl could shelve it (or make some intricate drm alike changes to the java platform with similar effects) much like they shelved peoplesoft after they bought it .

ibm made a serious mistake; java is a disruptive technology and as such it changed hands relatively cheap.
