OBAMA VS. SCIENCE

The headline reads, "Obama flunks Global Warming 101 on Fargo."

Writing in the Canada Free Press, Tim Ball, an adviser to the International Climate Science Coalition and previously climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg, says President Obama carelessly used the recent flooding in Fargo, N.D., to push a "misguided belief in global warming."

Mr. Obama commented: "If you look at the flooding that's going on right now in North Dakota, and you say to yourself, 'If you see an increase of two degrees, what does that do, in terms of the situation there?"

The president's remark, Mr. Ball said, was "speculative and completely wrong."

"A two-degree-warmer North Dakota would mean less snowfall; therefore, less flooding," the scientist says. "Spring flooding along the Red River of the north is due to snowmelt and the geography of the region. This year, the cold winter caused heavy snow in the south basin and all across the northern continental U.S."

Is Obama following Hugo Chavez on the path of nationalization...?

Could this be where bad money drives good money out...?

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Email to a FriendAdvertisement
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 34% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-two percent (32%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of +2 (see trends). On the Generic Congressional Ballot, it’s all tied—39% for the Democrats, 39% for the Republicans.

Most voters continue to believe that the financial and auto bailouts were a bad idea, but the Political Class disagrees. Sixty percent (60%) now believe the federal government has too much power and too much money.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates also available on Twitter.

Overall, 54% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance so far. Forty-six percent (46%) disapprove. For more Presidential barometers, see Obama By the Numbers.

It’s Earth Day and 72% think individuals can improve the environment by their actions. Just 31% believe most Americans are environmentally aware. Half the nation’s workers say their employer does a good job when it comes to recycling.

The Country Financial Security Index (video) fell again to a new low in April. In state polling, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is struggling with low approval ratings. Just 33% currently say they’re likely to vote for him in 2010.

Fifty-two percent (52%) now are concerned that the government will end up doing too much in response to the nation’s economic challenges. That’s the highest level of concern since last November’s Presidential Election. Just 31% now worry the government will do too little. Fifty-one percent (51%) have a favorable opinion of last week’s tea parties, but the Political Class strongly disagrees.

Also, see comments on comparing Job Approval ratings from different polling firms.

A Fordham University professor has rated the national pollsters on their record in Election 2008. We also have provided a summary of our results for your review.

Daily tracking results are collected via telephone surveys of 500 likely voters per night and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. The margin of sampling error—for the full sample of 1,500 Likely Voters--is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Results are also compiled on a full-week basis and crosstabs for the full-week results are available for Premium Members.

Like all polling firms, Rasmussen Reports weights its data to reflect the population at large (see methodology). Among other targets, Rasmussen Reports weights data by political party affiliation using a dynamic weighting process. While partisan affiliation is generally quite stable over time, there are a fair number of people who waver between allegiance to a particular party or independent status. Over the past four years, the number of Democrats in the country has increased while the number of Republicans has decreased.

Our baseline targets are established based upon separate survey interviews with a sample of adults nationwide completed during the preceding three months (a total of 45,000 interviews) and targets are updated monthly. Currently, the baseline targets for the adult population are 40.1% Democrats, 33.1% Republicans, and 26.7% unaffiliated. Likely voter samples typically show a slightly smaller advantage for the Democrats.

A review of last week’s key polls is posted each Saturday morning. Other stats on Obama are updated daily on the Rasmussen Reports Obama By the Numbers page. We also invite you to review other recent demographic highlights from the tracking polls.
