If we mined their ports, in an area that China considers their sphere of influence, do you think China would sit idly by watching?

Ratchet up the pressure on the cabal that runs NK.

IMO any economic pressure brought to bare would have little effect without help from the Chinese. Help they're not willing to give.

They don't want to live their lives in caves worried about us taking out them and their families.

You're right about Kim just being the tip of the iceberg. No dictators can exist without support from some form of oligarchy or group (like the military in Kims case). Screw Kim, if we're going to take a diplomatic route we should be appealing to Kims support group, they could always find a new fearless leader......
