There is a pretty active open carry movement in Michigan.

That site I linked has forums where people post their experiences OC in various places.

For a while it was illegal to have a gun in the passenger compartment in Illinois even if it was empty and in a case. That meant if you went hunting you had to drive a car with a trunk and not a SUV.
