don't many creationists assert organisms were placed here on a certain date and they haven't changed at all???

Young earth creationists believe that, I would say.

But be aware, creationist is as vague a term as evolution.

Guillermo Gonzalez was denied tenure despite his record of publication and development of new concepts in the field of astronomy for being a "creationist". He wrote a popular (that is aimed at the mass market) book arguing earths place in the cosmos is "designed for discovery" - basically the anthropic principle plus noting the earth's in a seemingly ideal place to study the universe. Nothing to do with biology or evolution, but it made him a "creationist" and therefore ended his career at Iowa St Univ. BTW the guy who led the campaign to deny him tenure is an atheist professor of religious studies. A new 'Pope vs Galileo' conflict with different casting - an atheist religion professor playing the part of pope and the part of Galileo played by a new astronomer looking for evidence of divine intentions in the arrangement of the cosmos.

BTW I think this would be a great topic for a book exploring the above comparisons.

So creationist is as vague a term as evolution.
