Perhaps intellectually he knew it was a bad idea - but ultimately he followed his core leftist values. Perhaps he could not resist his base - more likely he could not resist his whole life experience. He is a person of the left, for the left and at home with the left.


Smart politicians don't indulge their values when they know it's not necessary and will lead to nothing but trouble for them. This one move took the outrage already building on the right and threw it into overdrive.

As I said, if this were a matter of conviction, Obama would have done it from the start. He knows that he just abandoned "going forward" to appease the howling of his base.


He has yet to have a Sister Souljah moment.


Such moments take strength. I am still waiting to see if Obama has any. I suspect not.
