How is my posting nonresponsive?

You claim that this is not a panic, and just a normal 'bust' portion of the business cycle. I say that is not so - it is extraordinary in its depth and unique in the post FDR world of protections against such thievery.

Such a unique event was only possible with the cooperation - some would say coordination - from so-called 'pro business' politicians. They traded the safeguards given to us by FDR for a few votes and a little transient power.

For example, if the SEC - another safeguard given to us by FDR - had been doing its job, there would not be a Madoff. It was obvious to all Wall Street insiders that Madoff was up to no good - they were just mistaken in believing that his felony was insider trading, which they could benefit from.

This panic and its consequence are unique, brought on by a brand of conservatism that will hopefully die a quick and permanent death.

>I don't advocate doing away with FDIC insurance but the downside of such insurance is that it tempts Bank execes to take chances they might not otherwise...

For FDIC to work there has to be limiting CHARTERS that regulate the risk levels banks take. Bankers cannot be trusted.
