Republicans have led the charge on declawing the SEC and other oversight agencies for decades, starting in the Reagan era. It is the conservative business agenda that has caused the emasculating of financial oversight and enforcement.

Time to reverse that trend, and restore the protections given by FDR.

actually he started his scams when Ronnie was president. It grew and the fist big formal complaint against Madoff was in 2000; then there were several other complaints against Madoff to the SEC in the 2000's but the head of SEC, appointed by Bush , was a doctrinaire free market guy and did nothing.
