Excellent post for "earth day" Tim.

You know, it's chit like this that causes me to lose my faith in humanity. This & ten thousand other outrageous examples like this.

It's also why I wretch any time I see a lib talk about morals, ethics or even how we can have a civil, secular society.

Ira Einhorn, member of the counterculture pantheon, one of
the founders of the environmentalist movement, icon of the
liberal intelligentsia, was charged with murder. But it was
not just a simple murder, it was a gruesome case of
domestic violence.

At the bail hearing, Mr. Einhorn was praised by a
contingent of luminaries — all testifying to his character.
There were Ivy League professors, an Episcopalian minister
and corporate executives who worked with Mr. Einhorn
raising funds. They all stated under oath that he was a man
of the greatest integrity.

Arlen Specter, currently Pennsylvania’s senior United
States Senator, was Mr. Einhorn’s attorney....

Proclaiming his innocence, Mr. Einhorn told all that he was
framed. He said it was the CIA or the FBI....

But there is a little mentioned irony about the Einhorn saga....

Happy Earth Day

Steve Hayward
The Corner

Normally I'd post this on Planet Gore, but since today is Earth Day (and also Lenin's birthday — coincidence?), how about a rousing shout-out for environmental progress, as I document in the 14th edition of my Index of Leading Environmental Indicators. <SNIP>

This is perhaps my favorite tidbit from this year's edition:

<<< Elizabeth Rosenthal reported in the New York Times of a recent estimate from the Smithsonian Institution research in Central America suggesting that “for every acre of rain forest cut down each year, more than 50 acres of new forest are growing in the tropics on land that was once farmed, logged or ravaged by natural disaster. . . The new forests, the scientists argue, could blunt the effects of rain forest destruction by absorbing carbon dioxide, the leading heat-trapping gas linked to global warming, one crucial role that rain forests play. They could also, to a lesser extent, provide habitat for endangered species.” The next sentence, however, has a drearily predictable beginning: “The idea has stirred outrage among environmentalists,” not because it might be untrue, but because it might blunt support for “vigorous efforts to protect native rain forests.” >>>

Imagine: Environmentalist outrage over potentially good news.
