Tarken-san did his dash in Japan and wanted to return to NZ. Livedoor was wanting to import swarms of talented Geeks to propel Japan to Utopia, but the Japanese government put stringent requirements on those who could be employed meaning Livedoor could import only a handful of the dozens they hoped to get at bargain prices for great talent.

Then, Japan arrested Horie for doing things in an UnJapanese way, on trumped up "parking ticket" type charges. Nobody can comply with all laws, even if hiring lots of lawyers and doing their best, so authorities can always go and get anyone they like. "Splittism" in Japan means not alienating Tibet or Taiwan but splitting shares in two for the usual reasons. The government declared that to be a nefarious plot.

Japan, like so many places, kicks itself in both feet and kicks itself in the head to boot! [To continue to distort, extend and misuse the original meaning and "He shot himself in the foot" is actually NOT referring to accidental shooting but deliberate shooting to get out of a bad situation]. When they arrested Horie, that was the beginning of the end with the Nikkei taking a dive and the world's markets going out in sympathy over the next few years.
