That's true for a lot of retirement plans. I expect we'll be paying for a lot of them, as fallout from the Bush Depression. They're Federally guaranteed, like the FDIC.

I just heard the US Gov.(us the tax payers) are gonna pick up all the retirement and health care cost for the UAW, if GM goes bankrupt.

Duh.

But it's funded by about $80 something Billion, and the benefits would be reduced, so no the taxpayer would not "pick up all". You "just heard" wrong.

Still, bottom line it's much cheaper to the taxpayer to keep GM afloat.
