The bible is "retranslated" to keep the flock convinced...... Thats an ignorant charge. No meaning is changed with retranslation. An example of the changes of retranslation would be use of the words trespasses, debts, or sins in the Lords prayer in various translations over time. All are trying to get at the meaning in current English usage of the Greek word used in the NT text. Go to biblegateway and you can read the same passage in numerous translations. -------------------------- Purists will never allow Shakespeare to be treated the same way.... Then eventually no one will be able to understand it and it'll be like untranslated beowulf. Would you rewrite the constitution or Declaration of Independence Not enough time has passed to have to retranslate that. Will it be necessary centuries from now? Probably. -------------------------- BTW, which of those two versions of the Lord's Prayer does your church use... What a silly question. They are both the Lords prayer. A sermon dealing with those passages would read them as written. Neither of them were used in the town I grew up in and neither are used in public recitations today.... I have no idea what church you're talking of. Any church which recited a passage of the Bible would recite it as written certainly. Minor wording changes are not important. The version I posted to you was from a particular translation, a different translation would sound different but mean the same. You are likely remembering a slightly different translation.
