WASHINGTON (AP) — The mortgage finance company Freddie Mac, coping with the apparent suicide of its acting chief financial officer, said that its former chief executive was coming back temporarily to help oversee the company’s finances.

The former chief executive, David M. Moffett, resigned in March and will return as a consultant to the interim chief executive, John Koskinen. Mr. Moffett will help him produce financial statements.

The acting chief financial officer, David B. Kellermann, was found dead on Wednesday in the basement of his home in Vienna, Va., a suburb of Washington. Mr. Kellermann, 41, was promoted last September when the government seized Freddie Mac and ousted top executives.
