I am just saying it doesn't have to happen in the next 3-6 months like everybody on this board is expecting.

It is unlikely that the SPX makes new lows if the rest of the world - or even just Emerging Markets - come out of recession.

The 1998-2002 period actually saw a double-dip global recession/slowdown.

This period may be the same. The stimulus out of China is mind boggling and it is definitely reinflating something.

Another reason for the length of Japan's malaise is the falling population. If their population was rising at 1% annually, they'd have an additional 1% annual growth. The opposite is occuring.
