My daughter was born in Bishop (while I was living in Mammoth Lakes), long before there was a Wal-Mart. The biggest excitement of the day was when they put in a signal, replacing the one stop sign in the middle of town.

She was the only baby in the hospital until another one arrived 2 days later.

At Mammoth, there were 3 ski lifts and 2 rope tows. Today there are 29.

Interesting that Manzanar got mentioned and then today on the front page of the L.A. Times they have a story about Manzanar and how the kids used to sneak away to go fishing in the streams at the foothills of the Sierras.
