RE: I think we can expect another series of price reductions by the
middle of next year.

Intel generally offers quaterly price cuts. The next one is due Feb 1st. Will everybody all 'ramped' up by then, you can bet that they will not miss that one. Only unknown is how deep the cuts will be.

Article on Intel price cuts:
news.com

Intel competition for Winchips:
133 non mmx 85 85
166 MMX 145 112 23%
133 MMX notebook 177 106 40%

It looks like the big drop on the notebook 133 cpu
is to keep the WinChip out of the notebook market.
The good part is the WinChip is 50% cheaper to mfg.
Unless Intel sells for a loss they cant match the WinChip!
Could Intel get away with dumping as they are not
a foriegn company? Any experts on anti dumping laws?

Long term concern is PII market share over the next
12 months. It seems Intel is in a tight position.
The Intel roadmap is for thePII to be 90% of sales by the end of 98:
chipanalyst.com

If they sell the PII's into the sub 1000 market they really hurt
sales in the +2000 pc market.I think Intel did not plan on the
sub 1k market emerging.

TWIMC,

I bought a few shares of Cypress to take advantage of
the bottom. Now I watch that thread. Just as an observation,
it reminds me an awful lot of this thread about a year and one-
half ago--people calling the stock "a dog" and generally being
way down. Here, in contrast, this thread is extremely active,
upbeat, and lively. You'd think something big was going to
happen????????????/
