what follows is a genralization... wealth in the developing nations is very unequally distributed. the result is that there is little real demand for finished goods, which is what causes them to be net exporters. when you fritter aways tax revinues on grand projects that only benifit the wealthy you further compound this problem of lack of demand and dependence on exports to grow. when the world then decided that your currency is less valuable than before and you have to increase interest rates to protect it, as is happening now in HK etc you have a huge problem because access to capital becomes expensive, there is no domestic demand to compensate and your economy goes plop. That said AMAT is looking cheap at these levels and I have just placed a limit order at 29.5. hope this helps....explain my thoughts
