The Survival Evasion Resistance Escape, or SERE, course which is used by the US military for training purposes is designed primarily for pilots and Special Forces soldiers who are more risk of capture and interrogation than other troops. There is nothing the Bush Admin. did which is any worse than what we do to our own....and there no lingering effects, physical or mental to its use.
