If you don't exceed the 50/50 limit the answer is Nobody! The problem lies in that most brokerage firms will extend something called 'SMAA..?' I don't know what it means, but it is smart to figure your own margin and never to buy when going below the 50/50 limit. Check my posts.

I was told that the margin-call related liquidations contributed much to today's market decline. Who knows.
