LEO Computer Distribution Sdn Bhd has launched its latest desktop computers based on Intel's Pentium II microprocessors. According to the company, the Titan 9100 has been designed as its "future-proof" range of personal computers (PCs) which incorporate the latest technologies.

It added that the Titan 9100 is equipped with new hardware components such as digital video disk ( DVD ), accelerated graphics port (AGP) supports and 56 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem to enhance the multimedia and communication capabilities.

According to Chris Lee, marketing and communications specialist of the manufacturer, First International Computer Inc of Taiwan, the latest model is designed as a fun, innovative, communicative and business computing machine in one system which is suitable for both home and office use.

"The introduction of the PC is in line with Leo's marketing strategy to provide leading-edge products which can last for another three to four years," Lee said.

The Titan 9100 ATX tower chassis houses a Pentium II support from 233 megahertz to 300MHz with 64-megabyte synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) upgradeable to 384MB, 512-kilobyte (KB) Level 2 (L2) cache and a 1.7-gigabyte hard disk upgradeable to 6GB.

For multimedia enhancement and processing power, the PC uses FIC's AGP KL-6011 motherboard plus an AGP-based ATI 3-D Rage PRO with 4MB synchronous graphics RAM (SGRAM) graphics card and a 24-speed CD-ROM drive or an optional DVD .

"The motherboard can support dual Pentium II chips and future Pentium II chip speeds," Lee told reporters during the launch in Petaling Jaya.

Other optional items available include a modem and a 10/100-megabits per second (Mbps) Ethernet card.

Management software packges like Intel LANDesk is also offered for the networked business computing environment apart from the standard Windows 95 operating system.

Lee said Leo Malaysia is enjoying an average growth rate of about 33 per cent which is considered a very significant growth rate.

With the introduction of the new model, Leo has outlined an aggressive marketing strategy throughout the year to establish the company as one of Malaysia's top five brands by the year 2000.

"The strategy includes having stronger retail and distribution channels, creating brand awareness, providing leading-edge and value-added products, and establishing a stronger overall presence throughout Southeast Asia," Lee said. "With an aggressive market approach, we are confident that we will achieve one of the top five position."

Available immediately, prices of the Titan 9100 range from RM5,500 to RM6,500, depending on the type of processors.
