I don't have first hand experience, but I suspect Special Forces training is conducted to be as real and life-like as possible to induce fear and panic, so they will be able to deal with it in the event they're captured.

Fear and panic. Those are the lasting effects. If anything that induces fear and panic is considered torture, then we have a large list we need to build.

Fighting real fires, in real trainers can induce fear and panic.

Dealing with a massive in-rush of water to stop flooding can induce fear and panic. Which BTW a few people have actually died over the years performing in the trainers.

Tossing someone in the middle of a pool and saying swim or die can induce fear and panic.

I could list a dozen more off the top of my head, but I think I've made my point.
