We had increased security, air marshals, and an American public ready to roll on any potential hijackers. This is precisely what I mean when I say you people have short memories. It is astonishing to me that a person could have watched the events of 9/11 then be so certain that another, similar plot couldn't be successful. It reeks of stupidity. You can't have it both ways. At the time in question, CBS rated airport security an "F". Airport security had not ramped up to the point where it is now -- TSA was still hiring, the availability of modern Xray equipment was limited, and we were constantly hearing about how weak airport security was. As recently as last week, we are told that airport security it weak, as a Marine waltzed onboard a plane in Vegas with a loaded gun and so called "bomb making materials" (I'm often in and out of Vegas, and they even have the "bomb-sniffer" chambers there). Nothing is "laughable" about this; but if anything were, it would be the attitudes of you nutjobs. You complain about Bush, but in the same breath essentially admit that it was HIS security that has kept us safe since 9/11. Second, the time line doesn't add up. It certainly does. I posted on this previously today. And third we have the director of the FBI Robert Mueller saying, not anonymously, that torture didn't get us any actionable intelligence. Actually, I believe Mueller's remarks were made while the information was still classified. So, it is not surprising he didn't start spilling his guts on this subject. More importantly, the FBI is not an authoritative source on this subject, since they weren't involved. Finally, we should all keep in mind that it was FBI (under Clinton) who dropped the ball, could have prevented 9/11, and didn't do it because they thought it was "law enforcement" matter. Okay, that's enough for you. You are one of the more ignorant liberals on this thread, from your first post here your lack of knowledge on practically every subject is apparent. So, run along now. The CIA is the authority, not the FBI (remember, the FBI's decision to treat these terrorists as criminals under Clinton is the reason 9/11 happened in the first place). Five former CIA directors take issue with Mueller.
