Andy, Not too much good news out there, IBD's Biotechs fell 8.4% yesterday. Only good news is from Fox Chapel. High school beat #1 ranked Hampton 2-1 yesterday (game ended 1-1 and Fox Chapel won the shoot-out 4-2). Fox Chapel plays defending WPIAL and State Champion, Norwin tomorrow night (first time in WPIAL finals since 1985). Fox Chapel really dominated last night, out shooting Hampton 36-16. Hampton scored off a direct kick that Nicole saw late and tried to catch it before it short hopped her. She didn't and felt that Fox Chapel should have won 1-0 in regulation. Fox Chapel tied the score with 1:33 remaining in the first half. Fox Chapel certainly had enough opportunities to wininregulation. They hit the cross bar twice and hit the field goal cross bar (a few inches higher) two more times. Hampton's biggest scoring opportunity came in the second 10 minute overtime when Nicole was well positioned to save a header off a corner kick. After two 10 minute and two five minute sudden death overtimes, the game went to a shootout. Hampton scored the first goal and Fox Chapel responded. However,Nicole made a diving save on Hampton's second shot and then Fox Chapel took a 2-1 lead. Nicole then faced her Striker teammate who put it over the cross bar. Fox Chapel then took a 3-1 lead. Hampton stayed alive when their fourth shooter scored, but then Fox Chapel clinched the win when they scored their fourth PK. Norwin won 1-0 over Penn Trafford, and the two teams will face each other (which will be a re-match of last year's state semi-final game) onWednesday. Last year Norwin won both WPIAL and States. The State quarter finals begins week from Saturday. Emily is also trying to get LGND's price heading north again. This weekend their final fast pitch games were rained out. The outdoor soccer team won their final game 7-1 against Monroeville. Emily also started her indoor season (she is on a Fox Chapel U-10 team playing U-11, a FoxChapel U-12 team playing U-12, and a North Star U-12 team team playinng U-14). Indoor shutouts are very difficult (especially for teams playing up) but Emily played goal for the U-10 team and made 33 saves as Fox Chapel won 7-3 against Pine Richland.
