I think it is very clear that the people wanted the Republican version which was do it all. Obama and the dems backed away from opposition to off shore drilling and drilling in anwar among others when the Reps began to gain traction.

This is precisely why you can't say what people voted for. In the end the pols can't tell you what they stand for. What you vote for and what you get is entirely a coincidence.
