I think it is a harmless, rough interrogation tactic. Done with medical supervision. And in exactly the same manner as many of our soldiers are during training. You think we "torture" them?

Torture is painful, of extended duration, and probably has lasting physical consequences. Waterboarding is uncomfortable and doesn't last more than seconds.

John McCain would define it as torture. But he's not independent; anymore than the family of a murder victim would be allowed to sit on the jury of a murder trial.

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with real torture used on a terrorist if it will save American lives. But this was tame by comparison with, for example, what Admiral Stockdale endured while in the Hanoi Hilton.
