>>" The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That's the basis of politics in America. I'm afraid we are becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party with so little representation of the northeast or in the middle atlantic. I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance. That's a very important principle in the operation of our government. In the constitution on Separation of powers. "<<

I agree with this but unfortunately the so called grass roots of the Republican party have become so strange and irrelevant that the area of ground that they can grow on in this country is becoming more and more limited.

When unregulated financial capitalism feeding consumer greed fails they blame groups such as Acorn or unions, when more and more unregulated guns kill more and more and cause greater risk to our population they say more guns and more destructive ones, when we more and more pollute our land, sea and atmosphere they deny it and say drill, baby, drill and ridicule people such as Al Gore, when our health care system falls apart, they say essentially, patient heal thyself, when our so called defense budget, our major example of socialism, grows out of control they urge bigger expenditures, when their god fails to solve their problems they find a new televangelist (a Palin?) and a new megachurch to worship at and when a great number of our population goes into the street to resist war and invasion as a solution to a serious international problem they ridicule the protestors and their patriotism but then later hold "tea parties" to protest the taxes they "pay" which were not even levied to fund the war they wanted and etc,.

Don, > Karl Rove out there now saying Spector had lost touch with the so called grass roots of the Republican party...yup, he "lost touch" with the teabaggers.

Specter is doing what's best for his re-election, just like every other politician. This is the same Specter that once ruled out switching parties, claiming that we need to preserve our two-party system.

Did he have a choice? Republicans were running another Republican against him......one more to the right and promising to support THAT nominee financially. When Specter went to the Dems, Obama and Reid promised they would support Specter and help him raise funds. Now you've got to be an idiot if you can't figure out which is the better deal. And the truth is these days Specter is closer to the Dems in philosophy than he is with the Rs.

Bottomline: Rs are eating their young and cannibalizing the party. Your big tent has become a pup tent and is growing smaller by the day. Soon the Korean American wing will be out in the rain. Good thing you live in sunny S. CA. AMIRITE. ;-)
