Why do the churches continue trying to help refugees to assimilate to the customs of America if the refugee him/herself doesn't want to be here?

That sounds like we are forcing them to be here. Give them a choice. Be thankful for America and Americans who give them gifts, or return to your own home or place of birth.

IMO, we shouldn't try to help those who don't want to be helped. That is a good deal part of the problem, again IMO.

The refugee immigrants at my church chose to remain separate from American culture to the extent they can. Their children follow typical immigrant patterns and integrate very quickly. The struggle between generations for the proper amount of cultural separation / reverence is fought forever.
