His switch is a good thing and will allow for a more productive GOP state convention and a nominee with more "traditional" or conservative values. Arguably his move may have helped the GOP base.

If we look at Maine, with their two exceedingly liberal "Republican" senators, Snow and Collins, the situation is more obvious. With the liberal Democrat party alive and well in Maine, while those two liberal crones remain as "viable" elected Republicans it will be exceedingly difficult for Maine to vote for anyone who is not significantly left of center.
