To claim now that you need deficit spending in a downturn would be to contradict what the Democrats have been claiming for the past eight years.

That's complete nonsense.

The economy has contracted over 6% for two quarters in a row now. That screams for deficit stimulus spending from the federal government, if you're a Keynesian.

We had nothing like that during the time Bush and the Republicans were running up massive debt and Democrats were calling for a return to the Clinton era PAYGO. PAYGO makes perfect sense during expansion, which typically is what the U.S. economy does. It makes no sense during severe contraction, which is what we have now.

Democratic policy has been completely consistent with Keynesian economics whereas the Republicans have been utter hypocrites.

The beauty of this is, the Republicans are getting demolished for their hypocrisy instead of rewarded for it. The world is sometimes right and good...
