This horizontal drilling and fracking of tight shale has very quickly turned the entire U. S. energy picture around, and that in turn changed the whole economic picture. Everyone must read the piece in today's WSJ, already posted at least once on this thread.

There are thousands of square miles of horizontal shale beds in the eastern U. S. that had never produced much.

This has huge implications for fertilizer, plastics, etc , as well as electric power and possible vehicle conversions.

Low natural gas prices should also take pressure off the tar sands producers. Much less Canadian gas will be imported into the U. S.

All of a sudden the U. S. is a much wealthier country in terms of energy supplies.
