why would we bother to study GW if it is no problem and there is nothing we can do about it anyway? Your words.

To understand more about the earths climate. For one thing, we may want to heat up earth purposely for real one day. We already know that human civilization has arisen during a gap in a short gap in an era of recurring ice ages.

Brumar: "Nuclear proliferation is a serious problem and we should be putting the screws to Iran to stop them from developing nukes. Its unfortunate both that Bush did nothing here and that Obama seems likely to continue that course."

You mention Iran and no other country. Don't you see accidental nuclear war with China, Russia and Pakistan as the larger nuclear problem? I do. Iran is not even on my radar of nuclear threats compared to The three countries mentioned above.

Then you're judging things wrong. China and Russia, though they have more nuclear weapons are less of a threat due to the nature of their governments and cultures. There is an element of rationality there. Pakistan may be a serious threat soon due to the weakness of their government. Iran's government, if it had a nuclear weapon today, might well use it tomorrow. Literally. They're the biggest danger in the world today. Unpredictable irrational fanatics who belong to a type of Islam which can be accurately called a doomsday cult.
