I agree. More people are dying of the regular influenza every day. I guess they're looking at it as a unique story that generates a lot of interest. Locally, they're closing schools. Yesterday, they closed my high school alma mater for a week; today, five more schools. What will they do when it becomes more widespread; cancel the school year? I guess erring on the side of caution is best, but I agree that there seems to be more coverage than is warranted.
