Iran was the ONLY real "Shiite" bastion in the Middle East back in the 80's and 90's.

Until WE went in and put the Shiites in power in Iraq the Iranians were pretty isolated.

I certainly can't blame them for sponsoring Hezbollah.

Six years ago Iran was bordered by a "mortal enemy", Iraq. They fought a devastating war against Iraq in the 80's and always had to be vigilant.

NOW, we've gotten rid of that mortal enemy and put people in power in Iraq that were "supported and protected" by Iran in their struggles against Saddam.

Call me "naive" but I'm not so sure that's gonna turn out to be such a great thing for us in the long run.
