"It's like viruses we have seen in pigs, it's not something we know was in pigs."
what do these asshats know? Nobody knew we were going to be attack 911 despite 50 APBs, nobody knew Sadaam had no WMD, nobody knew the levees wouldn't hold in New Orleans, nobody knew this housing/derivates ponzi scheme wouldn't last forever now they don't know a pig virus when it's biting them in the a$$.

If this virus does mutate to become virulent, we're scroombed because nobody ever knows anything. And I can tell you the medical community is NOT ready for this so I hope it remains relatively benign, I think we'll get the equivalent of telling us to put duct tape on our windows after 911. Oh wait--we've already gotten that sort of advice from Joe Biden telling us to stay out of elevators and planes.

One of my colleagues attended an infectious disease conference on swine flu a few days ago and apparently the fear is that the length of the chain of this virus is a concern, apparently the longer it is the more breaks there can be and that's where it mutates. She also said something to the effect about some rouge DNA 'package' on the virus which also potentiates the likelihood of mutation.
