<<<I respectfully, but pretty much completely disagree. I believe that intelligent, well educated, well informed people of good character can and do disagree on all of those subjects, because they differ in which moral aspects of the issues are most important to them.>>>

There is obvious disagreement on those subjects based on different assumptions or fundamental beliefs.

My point, however, take the abortion issue for example. Conservatives generally start with the assumption that all life is sacred and that we have no right to take away life period. Liberals (like me) have a much more difficult time defending those situations where we punt on making that decision and leaving it up to the individual(or some such- I am still muddled on that). My point is that those Conservatives and Liberals with higher intelligence, better education (including life experiences), and free of personal hangups are likely to end up with a conclusion that is more agreeable to each side than those Conservatives and Liberals challenged by intellect, education, and personal demons.

I find this to be true for almost all of the big wedge issues of the day eg, capital punishment, welfare, healthcare, free market fundamentalism, etc, etc.
