It appears - this is speculation on my part - that the public health authorities in the US have concluded that the present swine flu is not particularly dangerous, and thus are NOT going to fight very hard to slow it down.

One theory would be why spend the money and disrupt the economy when very few people will be severly sick.

The second theory is that the present flu might provide some immunity if swine flu returns in the fall in a more dangerous form. So having this relatively benign form infect large numbers of people may effectively vaccinate them from a nasty virus later this year.

I expect that many people with swine flu have few symptoms, and those may be very mild.

Again, speculation on my part.

We should have a better idea in about 2 weeks - there should be about 500 US cases at that time.
