"This, to a large extent, is at the root of the socialistic fantasy." It is also at the heart of why the country will not benefit from the pain of this recession. If we simply try to reflate a broken model it will happen again and be worse. We need some serious structural changes. Huge amounts of debt need to be liquidated and huge unfundable state and federal obligations need to be rationalized. The whole concept of 30 and out with full pension and health care is catastrophically flawed. Bob

Imagine what would happen if (most) people would all together agree to follow their better (?) altruistic impulses... become their brother's keepers. Wouldn't the world be a better place? The West is the only civilization that accepts that we are fallen flawed creatures and cannot be improved by our own efforts. Best we can do is deal with it. Our founders solution is the best that has ever been found. Liberals reject this solution and have declared war on our nature. We all suffer for it.
