That is pretty much where I think I am. I don't think either side has the answer. I think you could make either side work - meaning that if you use either philosophy as a road map to guide yourself to a better life you can make it work.

My contention has always been that people use the arguments from legitimate philosophies to hide behind and to justify the unsavory parts of their character (eg, greed, selfishness, quirkiness, sadistic leanings, whatever).
