What I don't like about these numbers, or the program trading curbs at 50, is that they are static numbers instead of percentages. A 350 point drop now is a whole lot different than when these things were put in place (was it after '87 or '90, I forget?)

ANDY, When the DOW drops 550 points, trading is halted for one hour, not for the day. Today when the DOW dropped 554 points it was 3:30 P.M.

Correction, Andy... if the Dow drops 350, NYSE closes 1/2 hour, and if it drops 550, NYSE closes for 1 hour (NASDAQ followed). Because there was less than 1 hour left to trading, the whole market closed for the day.

Ooops. I see others have already corrected you.

Well, hi, then. Hope you're fine. VBG
