Well, there is a lot of shipping through the port of NOLA but that really wasn't long affected by Katrina.

The point is that NOLA is no more or less important than the next city. The city of NOLA could blow away and the port would keep operating as long as river access is available (and much of the shipping is now directed at ports on up the river, like Baton Rouge).

Seattle is a tourist destination but there are other industries here besides tourism.

Seattle is a tourist destination about like Dallas is. Which isn't much of one.

NOLA is a tourist destination first and foremost. As it should be. And luckily, tourism in NOLA is now just about back to normal, if the last few weeks are any indication at all.
